SMS

SMS is the abbreviation of Short Message Service. With SMS you are able to send small pieces of text from one cellular phone to the other. The maximum size of a SMS is 160 characters. Spaces are also counted as a character.

In general you don't have to change any settings to receive an SMS. In 9 of the 10 cases you don't have to do this for the sending of an SMS. When your SMS messages aren't accepted by the telephone exchange this can be a result of the following reasons:
  • Prepaid value is too low
  • You are abroad and the network that you use doesn't support SMS
  • You're abroad and your provider doesn't support SMS from another country
  • The programmed SMS telephone exchange number isn't provided by an international number (+31) - You don't have the appropriate SMS telephone exchange number
If you can't send an SMS in the country you live in you have a big chance that the SMS telephone exchange number isn't setted in in your cellular phone. Consider the manual of your cellular phone how you can give in the number of the SMS telephone exchange. Underneath you can find a survey of all SMS telephone exchange numbers of the providers in Holland:

KPN +31653131313
Vodafone +316540881000
T-Mobile +31624000000
Orange +31628500561
Telfort +31626000230

A lot of services are supported by SMS. For example, you can chat by SMS, claim for the weather, ringtones, screensavers or receive operater logo's. You can also receive settings for WAP, GPRS or MMS by "smart SMS". In this case your cellular phone has to support smart SMS. Consider the manual for this. You can find more information about services by SMS elsewhere within this helpdesk.
