T9 Wordimport (dictionary)

At a cellular phone you can type a SMS, MMS or e-mail in several ways. However, you can save a lot of time writing a SMS by using the dictionary in your cellular phone. This technique is called "T9" and is present in most cellular phones. At this page we will explain how to write a SMS by T9.

Typing a SMS without T9 was like this: When you wanted to type the word "hello" without T9 you had to press the following keys:
  • 2 x numberkey 4 for the "H"
  • 2 x numberkey 3 for the "E"
  • 3 x numberkey 5 for the "L" (often you have to wait now before it's typed down)
  • 3 x numberkey 5 for the "L"
  • 3 x numberkey 6 for the "O"
In this way you will have to press a key 12 times and it will take you about 5 seconds. When you use T9 this will take less time.

Typing a SMS with T9 goes like this: When you want to type the word "hello" with help of T9 (dictionary) you will have to press the following keys (make sure the T9 function is turned on at your cellular phone):
  • 1 x numberkey 4
  • 1 x numberkey 1
  • 2 x numberkey 5
  • 1 x numberkey 6
In this way you will have to press a key 5 times and it will take you about 2 seconds.

T9 is a great advantage, especially now the time has come that sending MMS and e-mail messages is possible. With this you can send large texts. Typing a message in the old-fashioned way would take a long time without the T9 function. With T9 you will save about 50 to 65% of the time that was used for typing texts in the old-fashioned way.

During the typing of new words your cellular phone can indicate other words or characters. You mustn't pay attention to this, but just type your word. The closer you come to the end of the word, the better it will be. Sometimes more combinations can be made by the keys you pressed. In this case your cellular phone will indicate the possibilities out of which you can select the right word. How your cellular phone indicates these options is different in every cellular phone. You can find more information about this in the manual of your device.
