T-Mobile introduces three MDA phones

28-05-2008: T-Mobile today announced three new MDA devices in München, Germany. T-Mobile will soon come to the market with the MDA Compact IV, the MDA Vario IV and the T-Mobile Ameo 16 gigabyte.

By: Tim Wijkman

At a large international pressconference in the South German München T-Mobile today unexpectedly launched three new MDAs. In general it was expected that T-Mobile would announce the MDA Compact IV, the T-Mobile variant of the HTC Touch Diamond. However, the telecom giant seemed to have more planned for us in München. Together with HTC T-Mobile also announce the MDA Vario IV and a 16 gigabyte version of the T-Mobile Ameo.

Just like the HTC Touch Diamond, the T-Mobile MDA Compact IV is a very special device. The new inteface that we also saw on the HTC Touch Diamond is also implemented in the T-Mobile MDA Compact IV, but of course in T-Mobile style. The MDA Compact IV is very userfriendly due to her 3D interface and her compact but very sharp VGA (640 x 480 pixels) touchscreen. The T-Mobile MDA Compact IV is the first device in the world (together with the HTC Touch Diamond) that operates on the newest Windows Mobile 6.1 platform.

When it comes to design, the phone differs a little from the HTC variant. HTC has given the device its own design special for T-Mobile. The device is made for the internet, it can handle HSDPA connections up to 7.2 Mbit/s and for quick uploads up to 1.4 Mbit/s the device has received HSUPA. An internal GPS receiver makes sure that the user will never get lost and the 3.2 megapixel camera in combination with the internal memory of four gigabyte offers a lot of pleasure in photography and multimedia.

Totally unexpected, T-Mobile also announced the T-Mobile MDA Vario IV today. The device is a real messenger filler thanks to the full slide-out QWERTY keyboard what the Vario series is known for. It's the ideal extension piece of the computer or the office for e-mail, SMS, multimedia messages, contacts and dates. The MDA Vario IV will come to the shops at the end of the Summer.

The device has, just like the Compact IV, HSDPA support for speeds up to 7.2 Mbit/s. Video telephony, an expanded video and musicplayer, a 3.2 megapixel camera and a built-in GPS receiver can be see as the "key features" of the device besides the mobile internet access.

The biggest boom T-Mobile planned today was the announcement of the T-Mobile Ameo 16GB, which of course can be seen as the follower of the T-Mobile Ameo we already knew. The device has, as the name already says, an internal memory of 16 gigabyte. The device combines the functions of a regular computer with the power of mobile broadband and a phone with innovative design. The device can be used with or without QWERTY keyboard. Because the device is quite large this gives you the possibility to type blind on the keyboard as on a regular keyboard of a computer.

Just like the T-Mobile MDA Compact IV the T-Mobile Ameo 16 GB also operates on the Windows Mobile 6.1 platform. The T-Mobile 16 GB will be in the shops round July. For the full specifications of the T-Mobile MDA Compact IV you can take a look at her specifications page.
