Prototypes Spyker spotted in Geneva

11-03-2008: In the Swiss Geneva, where the Autosalon took place last week, Spyker was not only showing off with her sports cars, Spyker also made a statement with three prototypes of new Spyker phones.

By: Tim Wijkman

For journalists in the telecomworld it is not really self-evident to visit one of the biggest car events in the world. However, at the Autosalon in the Swiss Geneva last week Spyker took her chance to show three prototypes of new Spyker phones. Besides the Spyker Spyder that was recently announced by Spyker, Spyker also showed a device with a fat eyeblink towards the Apple iPhone and two concept devices that might be launched at the end of 2008.

At the first place, photographer Marc Rutten made the photo above of two Spyker prototypes for Mobile Phone Helpdesk. The devices do not carry a name yet because they are still in development. Both the specifications and the design of the devices can be changed in the upcoming time and the company that produces the Spyker phones expects the two devices to be produced at the end of 2008.

It is known that the two devices will offer a 3,2 megapixel camera, that they will have dual-sim support with which it is possible to use two simcards at the same time, that they will offer a GPS receiver and that the memory will be expandable with MicroSD and TransFlash memorycards.

Especially the specifications of the displays of the two devices does not stand firm yet. It is clear that both devices will have a QVGA resolution (240 x 320 pixels) but the number of colours the devices will offer can still be changed. Depending on the actual choice of Spyker, displays with 262.000 colours or 16 million colours will be built-in but the preference of Spyker lies within the highest result possible.

Due to the dual-sim support it is to be expected that the device will be a dual-band device with the support of GSM 900 and GSM 1800 networks. UMTS support could be one of the possibilities but this will not become reality because dual-sim devices always need two antennas. With this, both devices have the same support on the network area as the Spyker Spyder that already is announced. Last but not least, bluetooth with A2DP support and a mini USB port will be present on both devices.

The most special device is the model above. This device also is a nameless prototype of Spyker and this device will never be produced. With this device, Spyker wants to make a statement towards Apple. With this prototype, Spyker wants to show that they are able to make iPhone-like devices and that the Apple iPhone actually is not that special. Specifications of this device are not brought out by Spyker because the device will not be produced.

In the end we can show you the first photo of the Spyker Spyder in the wild. Until now only product photos of the device were to be found but Spyker took the Spyker, which was recently announced, with them to the Autosalon in Geneva.

The Spyker Spyder will probably hit the market at the second quarter of 2008, with which we are now actually at the night before the release of the Spyker Spyder.
